As patent attorneys, we are active in all fields of industrial property protection at national, European and international level. Accordingly, we have admissions to all relevant courts and authorities in Germany, the EU and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Chronicle of the Firm

The patent attorney firm RGTH Patentanwälte PartGmbB was founded over 135 years ago and is thus one of the oldest patent attorney firms in Germany. We can therefore draw on a wealth of experience in the field of intellectual property protection.

In 1873, the firm Brand and Nawrocki was founded in Berlin. A commemorative coin minted in honour of Attorney Nawrocki bears witness to this firm, according to which Attorney Nawrocki had filed the 5000th German patent. The industrial property department of the firm was then taken over by Dr. jur. Constantin Schmidtlein in 1894, who was entered in the list of the first patent attorneys when the Patent Attorneys Act came into force in 1900.

After the Second World War, the firm moved to Hamburg. Here, Patent Attorney Ernst Splanemann initially managed the firm alone. In 1963, the current partnership was founded with the entry of Patent Attorney Dipl.-Ing. Joachim Richter, who was joined by Patent Attorney Dipl.-Ing. Franz Werdermann in 1973, Patent Attorney Dipl.-Ing. Hannes Gerbaulet in 1987 and Patent Attorney Dipl.-Geol. Matthias Richter in 2000. In 1990, a second office was founded in Berlin, led by Patent Attorney J. Richter.

In 2000, another office was established in Munich at the location of the patent offices and the Federal Patent Court, where Patent Attorney Dipl.-Phys. Dr. Andreas Hofmann, LL.M. is active.

In Hamburg, our team was strengthened with Patent Attorney Dipl.-Wirtsch.-Ing. Torge Thielemann, MBA in 2007 and with Patent Attorney Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Thorsten Last in 2013.

In 2022, there are already 17 patent attorneys and patent professionals working for RGTH, making us one of the largest firms in Hamburg.

It is this growth from 4 to 17 attorneys in less than 10 years that reflects the great trust clients place in our advice.
